As Cairo has transitioned to kindergarten this year, I am thrilled to share with you the remarkable progress he has made across various academic disciplines. In mathematics, science, social studies, writing, reading, and art, he has consistently demonstrated excellence. His accomplishments are a testament to the exceptional instruction he received at the Winchester School, coupled with his innate capabilities.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Naila, Ms. Khadijah, and all the educators who have been instrumental in shaping Cairo's educational foundation. Your commitment to fostering a love for learning, encouraging critical thinking, and instilling a sense of curiosity has undoubtedly contributed to his current achievements.
As a parent, witnessing my child's growth and success is a source of immense pride and joy. I firmly believe that the solid foundation laid during his time at the Winchester School has been pivotal in equipping him with the skills and knowledge necessary for his continued academic success.
The Winchester School was founded in 1970 in Silver Spring to teach preschool (pre-K 3 and 4), kindergarten, and elementary (first and second grade) children a balance of strong academic programs with stimulating art and music classes. The current location on Bel Pre Road serves families in Olney, Layhill, Glenmont, Aspen Hill, Wheaton, Rockville and Bethesda and offers before and after-school childcare. Time for the children to play both outside and inside the school along with first-rate field trips for fun and/or to augment classroom learnings are a vital part of the overall program. As Mary Rhim, the founder of the school put it: "I wanted to start a school that was a complete answer to what I looked for and wanted for my own children when they were young."

We accept preschool children ages starting at 3 years old through kindergarten and elementary years up through Second grade.
For admission into the Pre-K3, Pre-K4, Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd Grade programs, a child must have reached the respective age by September 1st of that year.
Early admission of a child whose birthday falls after September 1st will be allowed at the discretion of the Director, depending on the maturity of the child and certain other requirements for early admission.
Our general methods of instruction and types of academic and other learning activities for our preschool and elementary children are based on logically organized and sequential learning programs within eight basic areas: language arts, mathematics, science, STEM, Spanish, art, music, physical education and play. Teaching within these areas combines group instruction based on age with a high degree of individualized teaching within each group. To augment the book and paper/pencil learning, hands-on materials and activities are present in all of the learning centers. Both in-house and away from school field trips further stimulate the child and enhance the learning experience.
